It was some type of font for barcodes (code 39 or similar) which printed out underneath.

Forgot to add that the zero didn't have a slash until the very late 80's.

That font is pretty good but the 1, 4, J, M, W are wrong. The 1 needs very small serif's at the bottom, 4 open at the top, J is plain with out any serif's, the "V" in the middle of the M and W are very small/short. Wish I could add a picture of them but don't see that I can.
