Today, we take a closer look at them.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 40,000 most visited websites out there pretty much use the same fonts, shows an extensive study conducted by WhatFontIs.com. We analysed them and tried to find patterns between their chosen typefaces, and the results didn\u2019t disappoint. Turns out, the top ten fonts used for websites make up for over half of the pages.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest part is covered by free fonts, with the top five free fonts for websites being used in over one fifth (21%) of the analysed websites.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<script id=\"infogram_0_0891d9dc-e4d2-434b-9eb3-1dac58023e02\" title=\"top webfonts\" src=\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed.js?YQx\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><div style=\"padding:8px 0;font-family:Arial!important;font-size:13px!important;line-height:15px!important;text-align:center;border-top:1px solid #dadada;margin:0 30px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/top-webfonts_full.png\" title=\"Top Webfonts in 2019\">Full Image<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Google Fonts was launched in 2011-2012. Before this, web fonts were rarely used. Google Fonts\u2019 mission states: <em>Making the web more beautiful, fast, and open through great typography.<\/em> Did they succeed? That\u2019s why we started this study\u2019, explains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/alexandru-cuibari-whatfontis\/\">Alexandru Cuibari<\/a>, WhatFontIs founder and CEO.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018If 62 percent of websites are now using web fonts, than Google did make the Internet more beautiful. And, just like in the search engine market, Google also holds a comfortable majority when it comes to web fonts. Over 55 percent of the analysed websites use Google Web Fonts\u2019, adds Alexandru Cuibari.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"2048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/top-webfonts-2-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/top-webfonts-2-1.png 624w, https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/top-webfonts-2-1-91x300.png 91w, https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/top-webfonts-2-1-768x2519.png 768w, https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/top-webfonts-2-1-312x1024.png 312w, https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/top-webfonts-2-1-770x2526.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/FF_Open-Sans.font\"><strong>Open Sans<\/strong><\/a> was designed by Steve Matteson and commissioned by Google, thus becoming one of the most used fonts out there. It was designed for any screen, and that was ensured do to its height and wide lettering.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/FF_Roboto-Medium.font\"><strong>Roboto<\/strong><\/a>, the second most used font for websites, is also tied to Google. Roboto was designed by Christian Roberston as an in-house typeface for Google.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third most used font for websites, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fontawesome.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">FontAwesome<\/a><\/strong>, is so popular due to its versability. You can customize just about everything with it &#8211; size, color, drop shadow.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fourth font in the top compiled by WhatFontIs.com, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatfontis.com\/FF_Lato-Regular.font\"><strong>Lato,<\/strong><\/a> was designed by the Polish graphic artist Lukasz Dziedzic.
